CROSSOVER!
Hot and cold lines got tied together. Plumbers call that a crossover: hot water pushes into the cold side and cold into the hot, so every tap runs lukewarm. Split the lines to pass inspection.

Promoted
Pass or fail, he's the judge, and he found a crossover. On inspection day one mistake fails the job. Start it over and keep hot and cold apart.
New zone
Tap a pipe to turn it. The water heater sends hot water (red) and the street main sends cold (blue). Get every fixture its water. Showers, tubs, sinks and washers need both. If hot and cold ever meet, that's a crossover.
